Protecting Your Staff – NAHT Wellness & Protect’s New Services for 2025

As the education sector continues to evolve, the services that benefit schools are ever-changing and NAHT Wellness and Protect strive to provide schools and trusts with the most up-to-date services that will have the most impact for the whole school community. We are excited to share details of a range of new services, powered by Education Mutual, that will launch for the new membership year.

Amongst those new services is Staff Reputation and Legal Protection, aimed at protecting staff members from potentially career-ending accusations. NAHT Wellness and Protect will offer schools access to legal teams where false accusations against staff members have been made. This follows a rise in potentially career-ending libel cases that can have a severe impact on the individual’s mental wellbeing.

Following an investigation by Tes, which revealed that more than eight in ten school leaders had seen an increase in parental complaints, Education Secretary, Bridget Phillipson has stated that she is “concerned” about the recent rise in number of complaints and the “degree to which that can take up staff time.” Speaking to teachers and leaders about the impact this issue has, Phillipsonked the sector for their views on how this can be addressed.

The Confederation of Schools Trust (CST) say that complaints are putting “significant pressure on school leaders” and have pushed for policy change, particularly that the Teacher Regulation Agency should only be able to accept referrals from an employer or the police, not a member of the public. Whilst they accept parents have a right to complain, the current level is too high and presenting an issue where there will be “an impact on [the] ability to retain our leaders.”

Education Mutual’s School Business Leader Wellbeing Index 2025 has found that 47% of school business leaders are negatively impacted by staffing problems and are spending a disproportionate amount of time on this area, and as schools face more complaints, schools and trusts, such as Bishop Wilkinson Education Trust are now introducing template cease-and-desist letters to their schools.

Other new services for 2025 include new webinars focussing on sleep and the impact on cognitive function and voice care, tackling hoarseness and preventing avoidable absences. In addition, NAHT Wellness and Protect’s menopause support has been refreshed in line with what members have said they would like more support on, including topics such as partner guidance and a new symptom tracker.

Whatever your schools’ individual needs, NAHT Wellness and Protect can help your staff with their health and mental health through comprehensive absence protection and an extensive wellbeing package.
