Activity planner for school leaders – Summer term 2022

With the summer term fast-approaching, it’s never a bad time to remind yourself [and others] what needs to be done and by when. So we’ve pulled together some of the key tasks that are the ones that we know will take place in the summer term – we hope these will be a helpful reminder!

 

9 – 12 May        KS2 tests administered

19 May             Summer school census day

2 June               The May Bank Holiday weekend will be moved to Thursday 2 June 2022 and an additional Bank Holiday on Friday 3 June 2022 will see a four-day weekend to celebrate Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

6 June               Phonics screening check week

Schools should administer the multiplication tables check within the 3-week period from Monday 6 June 2022

15 June             Deadline for summer term school census returns

20 June             Phonics screening check materials and threshold mark published

30 June             Deadline for KS1 and KS2 teacher assessment outcomes to be submitted

21 July              Many schools will close for the summer break – time for a much-needed holiday!!

26 July              Deadline for academies to submit budget forecasts to the ESFA – take a look at the

18 August         A-level results day

25 August         GCSE results day

 

Plan next year’s calendar, comprising:

  • directed time
  • staff training events
  • assemblies
  • governing body meetings (and the selection of hearing and appeal panels)
  • staff meetings
  • INSET days
  • PTA evenings
  • residential trips
  • Christmas events
  • sports days
  • religious observation days
  • contingency planning

And, over the summer break, complete any buildings maintenance or works that present avoidable risks to pupils, staff and other school buildings users (e.g. any work related to asbestos, car parking resurfacing, security gates/fencing etc.).
