Facilitator – Michelle Perkins

This interactive, introductory session with education charity Facing History UK will explore how its strategies, resources and pedagogical approach can support you and your school in three key areas: an equitable and inclusive whole school culture; staff professional development and well-being; student engagement and progress

Aims

By the end of the session, you will have practical examples of how Facing History can enhance your strategic objectives in improving school culture, providing high quality curricula, supporting staff wellbeing and achieving student progress, including:

●    Bringing school values to life, and embedding fundamental British values and statutory requirements across the school curriculum in an equitable and meaningful way.
●    Augment existing curricula to further develop critical thinking and ethical reflection whilst delivering rigorous academic content
●    Empowering all staff with strategies to handle sensitive issues – such as the current spike in antisemitism and Islamophobia – consistently, safely and confidently, both with each other and with students, across both formal classroom and informal interactions.
●    Teacher responsiveness, efficacy and engagement, including upskilling non-specialist staff to deliver PSHE/RSE topics robustly.
●    Approaches, proven through independent evaluations, to increase student motivation to learn, empathy, critical and reflective thinking and oracy.
●    Student-led programme opportunities that promote active school citizenship, student leadership and student voice.
