Facilitator – Chris Dale

This course will start with the why; why is a professional learning culture so important in school life?  We will explore the importance of culture in establishing and building an effective climate of professional learning within or across schools.  We will then go on to critically examine the research in this area and attempt to use this to establish some underpinning evidence-based principles.  Following this we will start to explore and develop some practical ideas that exemplify the principles and that schools and leaders could use to implement these approaches.  There will be a strong focus on coaching, teacher enquiry and professional learning communities. There will also be an opportunity to consider the implications of all of this in the individual contexts of participants as well as an evidence-based framework for decision making that should inform and guide delegates about next steps.

Aims

  • Think deeply about professional learning cultures
  • Understand and consider the evidence around professional learning cultures
  • Have a greater understanding of practical strategies to strengthen professional learning culture
  • To be equipped to make informed contextual decisions about next steps
