Facilitator – Tom Harbour
In the UK not all children have a fair shot at education.
Despite being a focus for all schools, children from disadvantaged backgrounds are still months behind their more affluent peers (EPI, 2020). Almost half of the disadvantage gap seen by age 11 is explained by parents’ own education, attitudes and behaviours (IFS). Reading at home is fundamental to education.
This session will explore how primary schools can ensure parents are motivated and empowered to enjoy reading with their children. We will discuss the barriers that parents frequently face and consider how schools and charities can work to combat these.
Audience
Primary school headteachers and senior leaders.
